Before I start the review I will give a little info about myself. I am a twenty six year old mother of two. I have always had “sensitive” skin. From the time I hit about eleven years old I have always had tiny bumps on my arms, legs and recently on my back. I have always had to be careful with what I use on my skin. From the body wash to the makeup I use. I always seem to have a problem with it. I have always been given different advice. Always moisturize, no hot showers, try to exfoliate etc. It wasn’t until I was about 21 problems on my hands started. The picture of my hand here isn’t even half as bad as when it first started. It comes and goes now. Sometimes its harder to get under control. This time I had it under control until October and then it came back and the picture here is what it has looked like since.

Hand1

I have tried a lot of products before. Used all the soaps that they say are for “sensitive” skin or dermatologist tested. None of them have really worked or they feel like they are going to and then they don’t. So i was a bit skeptical with this product but I have to say that I’m glad I tried it. On the website for CLn it says that it is a bleach bath in a bottle. Which is a common bath that people with eczema are told to do. It helps with secondary infections that many people get. I believe the product is aimed at children and teens. Its a lot easier to use then putting a child in a bath with bleach and probably feels a bit safer.

CLn-BodyWash-information

The ingredients on the bottle are Sodium Laureth Sulfate which is a detergent/ fomaing agent. Cocamidopropyl Betaine which is a organic compound that acts like a detergent or emulsifier. Cocamide Mea which is also another foaming agent. Disodium Edta which if you look it up is added to personal care products to improve their stability in the air. Sodium Hyppochlorite which is bleach. When I read the ingredients it sounded a bit off putting but all of these are added to most personal care products we already use every day.

The first day I used this soap I put it only on my arms, hands and face. I have to say that the first time I put this on my hand it made it feel better. There was almost a relief feeling. My hand hurts quite a bit when I have a flare up so it was nice. It also kept me from scratching it as much as I do which helps it heal. I use to wake up in my sleep and I had been scratching my hand, that didn’t happen when I used this. I noticed every day it started looking better. There’s always a slight redness due to scarring so that will always be there but my hand looks incredibly better. It took ten days for my hand to clear up.That is the fastest it has ever healed. It usually takes months for my hand to clear up so I was amazed by this. It also worked on the bumps on my arms. I still do have some but not as many and not as many new ones are popping up.

I will say that I could not use this on my face. I used it for about four days then stopped because I started breaking out severely and it was almost like a rash. I know that usually its two weeks to try a face soap but I couldn’t live with my face hurting like that.

Overall I’d say this was a good product. The body wash doesn’t have a bad smell. It just smelled clean to me. It’s clear and takes a minute to lather up. It is worth giving a try. I will continue to use it on my problem areas.

Monsters-University-Top-Tips-for-Surviving-School

Are your little monsters apprehensive about the start of the school year? Professor Knight is here to help with his Top Tips for Surviving School, in anticipation of the release of Monsters University on Digital HD on October 8th and on Blu-ray Combo Pack on October 29th! Also check out the clips below!

My girls love watching Adventure Time on Cartoon Network. Since it is on late at night on Adult Swim, they record it on the DVR and watch it later.

The packaging of this is really cute! My daughter was begging me to let her keep the hat. I will probably give it to her. Maybe after she cleans her cesspool of a room first. I was impressed with the quality of the hat. It was really nice.

Adventure-Time-Jake-the-Dad-DVD-Set

WHAT TIME IS IT?! Time to snag your very own JAKE HAT! That’s right fans, this September not only will Cartoon Network introduce the newest DVD release in its top-selling franchise from its massive hit series, but it will also toss in a Jake hat, to boot. Adventure Time: Jake the Dad, the all-new compilation DVD release, features 16 popular episodes from seasons four and five of the series, PLUS a must-have Jake hat included as an on-pack bundle, which makes a perfect complement to the Finn hat fans got with last year’s release of Adventure Time: Jake vs. Me-Mow! With nearly three hours of episodes and an awesome hat – which is worth $20 on its own! – the Adventure Time: Jake the Dad DVD release will be available at retail on September 17 and is priced to own at $24.98.

I am not going to say the show is in any way educational. And to be honest it is not for every family. But I personally do not take issues with this show at all. I have a suspicion that the majority of the followers of Adventure Time are adults. Admit it! You watch it too.

Adventure-Time-Jake-the-Dad-DVD-With-Hat-On

Along with a Little Did You Know character special feature – and the aforementioned sweet hat – the Adventure Time: Jake the Dad DVD features the following episodes:

  1. Jake the Dad
  2. Burning Low
  3. Gotcha!
  4. Sons of Mars
  5.  BMO Noire
  6. The Hard Easy
  7. I Remember You
  8. All the Little People
  9. Mystery Dungeon
  10. All Your Fault
  11. Five More Short Graybles
  12. Vault of Bones
  13. Simon & Marcy
  14. Puhoy
  15. One Last Job
  16. BMO Lost

Make sure you get your copy when the DVD comes out on September 17th!

Poems-For-Peace

Peace Day (Sept. 21st) is more important now than ever, and Austin’s Poems for Peace (www.poems-for-peace.org) is hosting the 2nd annual (FREE) 1 hour poems for peace event at Zach Scott theatre.

Cities around the world are doing extraordinary things and they are asking everyone in the Austin community (teachers, schools, govt., individuals, churches, everyone, basically) to do SOMETHING to commemorate Peace Day and then share it on the Poems for Peace website.

It can be as simple as writing a poem with your kids, doing a drawing, chalk poem on the sidewalk – then send a pic or post on the Poems FB page.

They’d love to eventually build this into a city-wide event like other cities around the world have.

Austin’s own and former Executive Director of the Austin Creative Alliance, Latifah Taormina, spearheaded the Poems for Peace global initiative last year. Now, the celebration culminates in Austin with veteran Austin performers, Robert Faires and Barbara Chisholm among several others, sharing poems they love at a FREE event Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 12:30 pm at Zachary Scott Theatre’s Kleberg Stage (1401 West Riverside Drive, Austin, 78704). The event is free of charge to the public.

Peace One Day’s theme for this year’s Peace Day is “Who are you going to make peace with?”  Taormina explains, “Maybe that begins with oneself, with forgiveness of ourselves and others, and from there we can begin to feel the peace inside we can share with others.”

Austinites are being called to action by participating in, or coordinating, a Poems for Peace event, which can be as simple as reciting poetry in one’s home. People can recite, write, sing and create poetry through flash mobs, poetry readings, parties, slams, performances, workshops, exhibits, classes, concerts, games and love-notes in honor of Peace Day.  Poetry can be found even in a child’s scribbling their favorite rhyme on the sidewalk with chalk. Participants are encouraged to document and share their efforts on the Poems for Peace website (www.poems-for-peace.org) or Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/PoemsForPeaceOneDay. There are also past examples of creative events from around the world, on the website.

“This is about actively sharing one’s love of peace through poetry.” says Latifah Taormina, SICA’s Board President. “Poems live in our music, our holy books and in our hearts. Poems for Peace is an invitation to connect to that place inside us all and share your favorite poems — wherever you are — on Peace Day.”

SICA is proud to be part of this global initiative for peace which gives everyone an opportunity to share good things with friends and neighbors in a powerful and positive way.

About Peace One Day
Peace One Day began in 1999 as a cease fire initiative in Afghanistan to allow health workers to safely get to children to treat them on that day. In 2001 Peace One Day’s efforts were rewarded when the United Nations unanimously adopted a new resolution to declare its International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence.  http://peaceoneday.org

About Peace Day – September 21st

Today we suffered a loss, our beloved second had recently purchased Fisher Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing began its slow and painful journey to the white light.

This swing has been a godsend in our home. Nothing soothes our baby as much as this swing. She is so happy in it and drifts off into a comfortable and lengthy sleep in her swing during the day so mommy can work her day job and make money to pay the bills.

It looks like the motor is just not able to keep up anymore. I am not sure what I am going to do without this swing. Money is tight so it will take a while for me to save up for a new swing. However, I do highly recommend the Fisher Price Papasan Cradle Swings. They are amazing.

The Long Center is proud to present It Gets Better: The Stories, The Songs, September 20 in Dell Hall. Tickets start at $10.

It Gets Better: The Stories, The Songs is a professional, national touring company made up of representatives from Speak Theater Arts out of Los Angeles, as well as the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles and the It Gets Better Project. These groups will spend a week in Austin working with local ensembles to create a multimedia and live choral performance themed around anti-bullying and safety in schools.  Company members will also conduct anti-bullying seminars in local schools, create a promotional video for social and hold a community round table event.

Here in Austin, the local performance partners are Conspirare (a Long Center Resident Company) and the Capital City Men’s Chorus.

The inspiration for this tour is the It Gets Better Project, which was launched on YouTube in 2010 after a rash of teen suicides attributed to bullying in schools. Since then more than 50,000 user-created videos have been uploaded and viewed more than 50-million times.

The Project is touring today in order to keep this issue at the forefront of public awareness in the hopes that more young lives can be saved. Today, the mission of the It Gets Better Project is to communicate to young people around the world that it gets better, and to help effect the changes necessary to make it so.

With the purchase of a $49 ticket, the Long Center will donate a ticket to a student who may not otherwise be able to attend the performance.

Tickets are available at TheLongCenter.org or by calling (512) 474.LONG (5664). Also available at the Long Center’s 3M Box Office located at 701 West Riverside Drive at South First Street.  For groups of 10 and more, call 512-457-5161 or groupsales@thelongcenter.org
